Childs, Kiar Honoured With BIA Awards

A Wallaceburg restaurant is being honoured again by the Wallaceburg and District Chamber of Commerce.

The annual Business and Community Excellence Awards are being handed out this week, with the Wallaceburg BIA award going to the Black Goose.

Owner Mark Childs says it’s all about carrying on the family tradition and supporting the community.

“I need to put a big thank you out to Mom and Dad, back in 1969 they were way ahead of the curve and started this project,” Childs says. “My brother carried on until he passed away, and now that it’s in our hands, my boys and I, Deb and Sam and the rest of the family are happy to carry these traditions on.”

The Black Goose was also named Business of the Year earlier this week.

The Dresden BIA award has been presented to Stuart Kiar.

Born and raised in Shawinigan, Quebec, Kiar is now a barrister and solicitor in Dresden. He is married to Kathy, the owner of the Union Block Bakery, and father to son Alex. His downtime passion is working with others on volunteer efforts to improve our community.

“Right now one of the biggest thing is the Dresden Shines initiative,” Kiar says. “We’re bringing together the community to celebrate Christmas in a big way, socially distanced and in accordance with COVID protocols, but really trying to create some excitement and some celebration in the community.”

Tomorrow marks the final day of the award presentations, including Citizen of the Year and the Chip Gordon Community Builder award.
