Chinese Firm Eyeing Chatham-Kent

A Chinese environmental technology company is hoping to break into the North American market with a tentative investment in Chatham-Kent.

A memorandum of understanding has been signed between Niutech Environment Technology Corporation and the municipality.

The company, which makes tire and plastics recycling systems, would be investing 15-million dollars into the local economy, and could create as many as 50 jobs.

The memorandum isn’t binding, but municipal officials say it is a positive step

Representatives from Niuetch have been to Chatham-Kent several times, including a visit with the mayor just last month.

The municipality’s Director of Investment, Attraction and Government Affairs, Michael Burton, is expected to present more details to council once he returns from China.
