Council will make a decision during tonight’s council meeting on approving renovations to the existing Chatham Civic Centre at an estimated cost of $18.1 million.
The proposed renovations of the 43-year-old building would include a new HVAC system, fire protection/sprinkler system, new windows and doors, new offices and conference rooms, new floor and wall finishes, new work stations, new elevator and moving the council chambers to the first floor.
If council decides to just replace the HVAC system it will cost $9.7 million but the other renovations would cost over $2 million more at a later date due to what the report says are re-mobilization requirements.
The report said funding will be provided from building lifecycle reserves with no negative impact to the tax levy.
