Chatham-Kent managed to avoid being named in the CAA’s annual Worst Roads campaign.

Lauzon Parkway in Windsor was the top – or worst – road in Southwestern Ontario, according to the 20th annual rankings. Plank Road in Sarnia placed second, followed by Tecumseh Road East, University Avenue West, and Sandwich Street in Windsor.

Barton Street East in Hamilton has been named the worst road in Ontario.

CAA officials say the campaign gives decision makers a snapshot of the roads the public perceives as not meeting their expectations.

The Residential and Civil Construction Alliance of Ontario, which partners with the CAA, says the campaign serves as an important reminder of the impact that infrastructure has in the daily lives of Ontarians.

“This campaign highlights the need for definitive and dedicated funding from the provincial and federal government for municipalities to address the state-of-good-repair and maintenance of critical infrastructure needed to support our growing province,” said Nadia Todorova, Executive Director of RCCAO in a news release.

The organization says both the federal and provincial governments need to come together to provide municipalities with crucially needed financial assistance, recognizing the delays and overall impacts the pandemic has had on priority infrastructure projects and their state-of-good-repair.
