CK Chamber President, CEO Announces Retirement

After almost three decades, the head of the Chatham-Kent Chamber of Commerce is calling a career.

Gail Hundt has announced her retirement as president and CEO following 28 years in the role.

“There’s been a lot of things over the last number of years that have made me sit back and recognize that life is short and I have family and friends that I want to spend more time with,” she said. “It’s time to hand the torch to someone else.”

Hundt referred to her departure from the CK Chamber of Commerce as bittersweet, with her last day slated for June 27.

After so many years in a leadership role, Hundt said she has seen numerous changes within the municipality over the years including amalgamation and, more recently, the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Obviously, the pandemic of the last few years caused great concern and yet I’m very proud to know that the Chamber of Commerce was right at the forefront right from the very beginning, working with our government relations and working on behalf of the businesses that needed the support,” she said.

Hundt also noted the change from predominately brick-and-mortar stores to local online businesses that even ship internationally

“They’re selling their products right across the globe and it truly is a worldwide market,” she said.

The Chatham-Kent Chamber of Commerce is currently seeking Hundt’s successor as president and CEO, and is accepting applications until March 28.
