Several Chatham-Kent councillors will be saying their final farewells during Monday night’s meeting.
With the municipal election only three weeks away, Chatham-Kent Council will hold its last meeting of the current term, beginning at 6 p.m. It will also mark the final meeting of seven councillors who have decided not to seek reelection.
Councillors Trevor Thompson and Carmen McGregor were first elected in 2014 and are ending their tenure on council after three terms.
Two-term councillors John Wright, Aaron Hall, and Jamie McGrail will also be bidding farewell to their colleagues on council, along with Ryan Doyle and Morena McDonald, who have each served one term.
The end of the current term will also mark the end of the current council and ward structure, which has been in place since amalgamation in 1998. The number of wards will be increased from six to eight for the next term, and council will be reduced from 18 members to 15.
