CK Declares State of Emergency

A state of emergency has been declared as municipal officials grapple with clean-up after Friday’s blizzard.

Authorities report numerous vehicle collisions across Chatham-Kent, leaving hundreds of people stranded.

While visibility has improved, officials say road conditions continue to be a significant challenge due to high winds, drifting show, and abandoned vehicles on the roads.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service is strongly advising the public to stay off the roads to allow municipal plows and tow trucks to clear vehicles that are making roads impassible.

All municipal services declared closed on Friday remain closed Saturday, including transit and facilities.

Vehicles that were abandoned will begin to be relocated when it is safe to do so. Officials say it could take hours, if not days for this situation to be remedied.

CK Police will coordinate with Municipal staff and those looking for information on their vehicles are asked to call 3-1-1.

Warming centres continue to be open at the Ridgetown and Tilbury arenas.
