Food banks in Chatham-Kent are receiving a financial boost thanks to the local chapter of Grain Farmers of Ontario (GFO).
District 2, representing farmers in Chatham-Kent, has donated $4,000 to be shared between Chatham Outreach for Hunger and the Chatham-Kent Salvation Army.
“In these unprecedented times we wish to continue to support our community’s access to quality food and nutrition with this donation,” GFO said in a news release.
Chatham Outreach for Hunger operates out of its central location on Wellington Street in Chatham and the Chatham-Kent Salvation Army has food banks located in Blenheim, Chatham, Ridgetown, and Wallaceburg.
The Grain Farmers of Ontario is the province’s largest commodity organization, representing Ontario’s 28,000 barley, corn, oat, soybean and wheat farmers.
