CK Fire Stresses Preparedness Following Tornados

Chatham-Kent fire officials are urging local residents to be prepared after a pair of tornados were recently reported in the local region.

Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue said residents should ensure they have a 72-hour emergency kit in the event of an emergency such as a tornado. Fire officials said residents should gather food, water, and medicine, and be prepared to live without power, gas, and water should a serious storm hit.

Local residents should also monitor local weather and keep an eye out for signs of dangerous weather, such as an extremely dark sky, sometimes highlighted by green or yellow clouds.

Should a storm damage hydro wires, all downed lines should be treated as though they have a live current. Never try to move downed wires or remove tree limbs.

The Northern Tornadoes Project recently confirmed that South Buxton was hit by an EF1 tornado on Thursday of last week, and a weaker EF0 tornado also touched down in Petrolia.
