While we won’t likely host another event as large as the International Plowing Match, Director of Tourism Development Shannon Paiva says there are other ways to spread the word.
“The number of travel writers and bloggers that we’re seeing come in to cover our Black History, angling, that sort of thing, is growing exponentially every year which is fantastic. We’re working with some very big names and we’ve got some things in the works for next year where we’re going to see some pretty big names who are going to share the word,” says Paiva.
She says these influences are helping to draw in some international visitors.
“We actually had a writer come from Germany this year. It’s already turned into a discussion written in German for a German magazine, and we have a least a couple of couples who are coming from Germany because of this article, and they’ve booked their holiday for the summer of 2019,” Paiva says.
Officials from SportsNet have already said they’d like to come back to Chatham-Kent for another curling event, like this fall’s Grand Slam tournament.
