After a decade of providing compassionate end-of-life care in Chatham-Kent, the local hospice is looking to the future.
The Chatham-Kent Hospice is celebrating its tenth year in the community by launching a $286,000 capital fundraising campaign to renovate and modernize the kitchen within its Wellington Street East facility.
The renovation is expected to enhance accessibility, improve safety and workflow for volunteers, and create a warm, functional
environment for residents.
“It’s been 10 years, thousands of people have come through here. It’s time to refresh it and expand it,” said CK Hospice Board Chair Keith Graham.
The hospice also plans to celebrate the 10-year milestone with several festivities, including a special memorial at the Hike for Hospice, a memorial fence for community ribbons, a commissioned mural, and the release of a commemorative beer through a partnership with Sons of Kent. For the first time since opening, the hospice will also be providing open house tours of the facility for interested community members.
Since opening its doors in 2016, the residential hospice has provided palliative and end-of-life care to over 1,761 individuals in the community.
“All the challenges that we face, and throughout it all, we’ve continued to provide outstanding care to our residents and families. We’re excited about that, and now we’re excited about the next ten years,” said Graham. “The need for palliative support is massive in our community and we’re looking for ways that we can do more.”
