The Municipality is investing nearly $8,000,000 into the North Kent Wind 1 project, but almost half of Council is against it.
The decision to invest in the turbine development passed last night with an 8-7 vote.
Councillor Michael Bondy says Chatham-Kent doesn’t need more turbines.
“There’s a lot of public discontent with…the hundreds and hundreds of turbines that we have,” the Ward Six representative says. “I believe we had enough of these five years ago, so I don’t think as municipal council we should be funding additional turbines in Chatham-Kent.”
Other members of Council defended the move, which is expected to generate long-term revenue for the municipality.
The municipality could garner as much as $20,000,000 over time.
