Dr. David Colby, Chatham-Kent’s Medical Officer of Health announced Thursday that when it comes to delivering vaccines, we are number one.
“I am proud to announce of all the health units across Ontario Chatham-Kent is number one in terms of the proportion of its population being vaccinated,” Dr. Colby says. “As of right now we have vaccinated over 11,000 people with first doses of this vaccine, and that is the highest proportion in all of Ontario, in fact all of Canada.”
CKHA President and CEO Lori Marshall says she is “just delighted to have such hopeful news for our community.”
Marshall says this has been a truly collaborative effort between Public Health, the CKHA, EMS, and other local health agencies.
Outreach teams began vaccinating long term care residents on January 25th, and the mass vaccination clinic opening its doors on February 23rd.
Much of the country got a six week head start on the municipality before the first round of vaccines even arrived in Chatham-Kent.
