More services are opening up at libraries across the municipality, but a return to normal may still be a ways off.
Tania Sharpe, chief librarian at the Chatham-Kent Public Library, says they’re offering curbside pickup at six locations and book drop-offs at all branches.
“We are working towards getting some more branches open in September, we’re preparing for curbs-side service but we’re hoping we’re going to be able to do a ‘Library Express’ where people can come in, quickly browse, and leave, and book 45 minute computer appointments.”
Sharpe says any future plans depend on a decline in the community’s active COVID cases.
Even with a reduction in local cases, don’t expect to see CK’s libraries fully reopen for some time yet.
“Until we have a vaccine in place, we’re not going to go back to our pre-March normal,” Sharpe says. “All I can say for library services, we’ll do our absolute best to provide efficient, effective service to our community’s and we’ll keep trying our best to meet the recreational and informational needs.”
Sharpe is also hoping to launch an online chat, research, and inquiry service sometime in the fall.
