CK Marks its 21st COVID Death Since the Pandemic Began

Chatham-Kent’s downward trend in COVID cases continues, but at a cost.

After the long weekend, Public Health is reporting 28 new cases today and 50 resolved, lowering the active caseload to 72.

One more person has died from the virus – the 21st local death since the pandemic began. Public Health officials say a man in his 60s succumbed to COVID-19 at the Health Alliance over the weekend.

There are now five COVID patients being treated at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, two of whom live outside of the municipality and aren’t included in the Public Health daily update. Of those COVID patients, two are in the ICU, one on a ventilator.

Another outbreak has been declared, this time at a child care centre. Two new infections have been linked to Kids Connection Daycare on St Clair Street in Chatham.

That brings to six the number of active outbreaks, including four schools and Copper Terrace long term care home.
