CK Marks its 93 COVID Death

COVID-19 continues to take its toll in Chatham-Kent, even as case numbers decline.

One more death caused by the virus was announced in this week’s COVID update from CK Public Health, bringing to 93 the number of local lives lost to the virus since the pandemic began.

Just 27 new cases were reported between December 11 and 17, dropping the seven day average to four high risk cases a day.

The numbers are an underestimate of the true caseload across the municipality because of limitations on PCR testing.

The positivity rate in Chatham-Kent has fallen to 8.1%, down from 10.9% a week ago. The provincial rate has risen to 13.5%.

No new COVID outbreaks have been reported in the past week, however public health officials continue to keep tabs on an ongoing outbreak at Tilbury Manor Nursing Home, where 29 cases have been confirmed since December 5th.
