CK Mayor Eager for Economic Reopening

Chatham-Kent’s mayor is looking forward to having the economy open up a bit.

On Monday, Premier Doug Ford announced that Chatham-Kent, along with most of the province, will return to the colour-coded response framework on February 16.

The reopening plans allow small retailers to open with 25% capacity, even in the grey framework.

Mayor Darrin Canniff says it’s good news for our local retailers and the municipality as a whole.

“Certainly administration is going through everything and we’ll be preparing anything we can open up from our services,” Canniff says. “I’m really excited that we can start getting back to some normalcy.”

However, Canniff also cautions local residents not to get ahead of themselves.

“Last time we said ‘oh, it’s over with’ and went back out and then went back in again. When we reopen again, we just need to be cautious for the next few months and when we get that vaccine, we’ll be able to get back to normal.”
