Plans are coming together for the 89th annual Chatham-Kent Plowing Match.
The event will be held Saturday, August 8 at the farm of Josh & Emma Butler at J&E Meats on Oakdale Road in Croton from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm.
Prizes will be awarded in various classes as well as the Youngest and Eldest Plowman, Junior Special, and Plowing Special, among other categories. New this year will be a farm recreation class, open to anyone wanting to try plowing.
Organizers are looking for young women to compete in the Queen and Princess of the Furrow competitions. Contestants for the Queen of the Furrow must be between the ages of 18 and 28 as of January 1, 2026, while the Princess competition is for girls age 11-17.
Contestants will need to register in advance and give a speech on any topic related to agriculture.
