CK Police Now Using Language Translation Technology

A new tool is helping local police officers communicate more effectively and compassionately with Chatham-Kent residents.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service is now utilizing a cutting-edge language translation app that provides real-time translation services in over 200 languages, including American Sign Language. The app’s video capabilities also ensure inclusive support for the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community.

“By bridging language barriers, we’re strengthening our connection to Chatham-Kent’s diverse population, making sure every voice is heard, understood, and respected,” said Deputy Chief Jason Chickowski. “Whether someone is calling 911, speaking with an officer, or participating in an investigation, they deserve to be met with dignity and clear communication.”

The innovative tool can be used by 911 emergency response operators to support victims and witnesses, or by frontline officers and investigators while responding to emergencies and conducting interviews.
