A week of acceptance and inclusion is getting underway in Chatham-Kent.
Pride Week officially begins on Saturday, August 15 with a pair of events, including Ride into Pride, and a dance at JazzBah in downtown Chatham.
Other festivities through the week include a flag raising at the Civic Centre on Monday, trivia at Turns and Tales on Wednesday, and the annual Pride Parade and PrideFest on Saturday.
While many communities celebrate Pride in June to honour the Stonewall Riots in New York City, CK Pride and other Canadian organizations centre their events in August in honour of the We Demand Rally, Canada’s first gay rights protest on Parliament Hill on August 28, 1971.
