Chatham-Kent’s largest community book club is returning for 2024.

Organized by the Chatham-Kent Public Library, CK Reads invites everyone to read the same book, take part in various discussions and programs at CKPL, and bring the community together over a shared love of reading.

Participants will read “In the Upper Country” by Kai Thomas, following the path of the Underground Railroad from Virginia to Michigan, Indigenous nations around the Great Lakes, and Black refugee communities in Canada.

“In the Upper Country” recently won the Atwood Gibson Writers Trust Award and was shortlisted for both the Governor General’s Fiction Award and the Amazon Canada First Novel Award.

CKPL’s 2024 CK Reads’ program will wrap up at the end of April with an author visit from Kai Thomas.

This is the eighth year for the CK Reads program, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Chatham.
