Rain couldn’t keep away hundreds of people who participated in last night’s Relay for Life in Chatham.
Darcy Derbecker, Fundraising Assistant at the Chatham-Kent Cancer Office, says the fund raising numbers are in.
“We raised an incredible $80,000 and we are still getting money in so that number is only going to climb. We had great teams who showed unreal spirit all throughout Relay, and one of out top teams, Geeks with Sneaks, did an amazing job with their fundraising. They raised $14,000”, says Derbecker.
Derbecker says the participants continued to relay through the rain until the event finished at midnight.
“It was our 15th anniversary of Relay for Life in Chatham-Kent, which was extremely exciting. We had teams come out with their tents, relay spirit, and they really enjoyed the night. Even though it rain, that did not dampen our spirit as we continued to relay through the rain”, Derbecker says.
All funds raised through Relay for Life goes to the Canadian Cancer Society.
