CK Restaurants Brace for Cooler Weather

Municipal officials are urging residents to keep supporting area restaurants as cooler weather moves in.

Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff says we can all pitch and help.

“As we move into the winter months, the patio options will be taken out, but take-out will be a big thing, and off-hours…people start thinking we’ll have dinner a little earlier, a little later, those things” Canniff says. “Restaurants are depending on us, as a community, to support them.”

Municipal CAO Don Shropshire says they’re considering every option as the pandemic continues and limits remain on the number of people who can gather indoors.

“The mayor has challenged us already to start thinking about how we can find ways to help continue the outdoor seating arrangements, I’ve talked to a number of restaurateurs that are considering heaters and the like,” Shropshire says. “Obviously they’ll find as we march into the cold weather, the more difficult that’s going to be so I don’t think that’s going to be the entire solution.”

Shropshire says the municipality’s hands are tied somewhat in terms of funding for restaurants, but they’re hoping the public will also step up to support area businesses through the colder months.
