A government program could help pay for repaving along St. Clair Street between McNaughton Avenue East and Gregory Drive East.
Council will vote at Monday’s meeting on applying for the Ministry of Transportation’s (MTO) Connecting Links Program, which assists municipalities with repairing roadways and bridges that connect provincial highways through communities.
The program covers up to 90 per cent of eligible project costs, to a maximum of $5 million for road projects and $7 million for bridge work. Applicants are required to cover the remaining eligible costs and any ineligible expenses.
According to the report, the estimated cost of the project is $4.5 million, with the Municipality contributing approximately $450,000 from the Pavement Resurfacing Program, which was approved through the capital budget process.
The proposed project includes resurfacing the existing asphalt, concrete curb repairs, sidewalk improvements, the installation of a new signalized pedestrian crossing, and restoration of boulevards and driveways.
If approved by council, the application will be submitted to the MTO by the November 12 deadline. If provincial funding is awarded, construction is expected to begin next summer.
