CK To Receive Almost $50K For Public Transit

To help recoup losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ontario government has allocated close to $50,000 for Chatham-Kent’s municipal transit system.

Through the province’s Safe Restart Agreement, the government has announced that it will be providing up to $505 million to 107 municipalities to help ensure municipal transit systems can continue to deliver safe and reliable services.

“This funding, on top of what has already been provided, will help ensure reliable transportation options are available for everyone, whether you’re going to work, school or the grocery store,” said Minister of Transportation Caroline Mulroney.

Chatham-Kent will receive up to $49,891 in funding to address costs related to the COVID-19 pandemic incurred between February 1, 2022, and December 31, 2022.

The municipality will be able to apply this funding to cover revenue losses, operating expenses, and provincial transit priority projects.

The federal and provincial governments have provided more than $2 billion in dedicated funding for municipal transit systems since 2020.
