CK To Start Wheatley Water Tower Repairs

Rehabilitation of Wheatley’s water tower is set to begin this month.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent said construction crews have already started mobilizing at the site, with rehabilitation expected to take place between April and October.

The project will involve sandblasting and recoating both the interior and exterior of the water tower. Final restoration work, including topsoil replacement, seeding, and fence repairs, is scheduled for October.

Water delivery and water pressure in Wheatley will not be impacted.

The existing tank was originally constructed in 1966 and, over time, has been exposed to extreme weather conditions, leading to deterioration of the inner and outer coatings.

The full $4.3 million rehabilitation project is expected to take two years to complete.

To extend the lifespan of the 10 elevated water storage tanks in Chatham-Kent, the municipality has conducted multiple rehabilitation projects over the last several years. So far, six of CK’s water tanks have been rehabilitated.
