Students and volunteers in Chatham-Kent are teaming up to help shape natural spaces in their communities.
NatureCK is organizing two tree-planting projects next month in Wallaceburg and Chatham that will see hundreds of trees planted between the two communities.
For the first project, students from 36 classrooms at McNaughton Avenue Public School will plant 60 trees within Chatham on October 9. A 20-by-30-foot pollinator garden will also be planted in the spring as part of the endeavour.
The second project will see a minimum of 275 trees planted across four locations in Wallaceburg — Thompson Park, MacDonald Park, Optimist Park, and Dauw Park. NatureCK is also partnering with the Green Program at Wallaceburg District Secondary School to get students involved in the planting process.
Organizers with NatureCK said the new trees will create a lasting legacy that will provide natural spaces for future students, families, residents, and wildlife to enjoy.
