The unemployment rate in Chatham-Kent continues to fall as more jobs are created in the area. civic centre chatham

The municipality has released employment figures, showing the jobless rate dropped from 6.2 percent in September to 6.1 in October, with a 2.9 percent decline over the first 10 months of the year.

Acting Director of Economic Development Stuart McFadden says this is great news.

“It’s attributed to a lot of the companies that continue to invest in themselves, invest in new technology, and make themselves more  competitive,” McFadden says.” Along with a very, very hot housing market and a decline in caseload for our Ontario Works files, this is very positive news going into the new year.”

McFadden says he believes the trend will continue into 2017.

“Our Small Business Centre and entrepreneurial spirit in Chatham-Kent is alive and well with lots of new business starting up and lots of businesses that are expanding.”

Officials say the jobless rate in October is the lowest it’s been for that month in a decade.
