CK Woman Bilked Out of $5100

A warning from Chatham-Kent Police with another scam making the rounds.

A woman called police over the weekend to report being bilked out of over five-thousand dollars.

The victim was called several times by a man claiming to be from her bank, saying there had been some suspicious transactions on her account and he needed to get remote access to her computer to help her out.

The woman was talked into buying $5100 worth of gift cards and passed on the requested information to the man. She eventually caught on to the scam and called the police.

Authorities remind all residents buying gift cards is a common tactic among fraud artists, and always be wary of anyone asking for gift cards, cash, or Bitcoin.
