Shannon Paiva, Supervisor of Tourism Development, says it all starts with local residents spreading the word about attractions and events.
“Although we want tourists from other areas, there are so many things to discover in our own backyard. If you weren’t able to tell your visiting friends and relatives about something that ‘s happening, how are we going to get the word out? It’s all about us becoming ambassadors for our own area”, Paiva says.
The municipality is hosting a ‘brochure swap’ at the Capitol Theatre on May 30th from 5-6pm, the deadline to register is May 24th. Paiva says anyone in the tourism industry is welcome to come.
“Whether you’re a restaurant, in accommodation, like B&B’s, hotels, and bigger attractions too [you’re welcome to come] open up your trunk, bring out your brochures, and give them to others in Chatham-Kent to share that information. Then we take them as well to our 20 Municipal locations to promote you and your business in Chatham-Kent”, Paiva says.
