Details are being released about a donation to support those in need in Wallaceburg.
Back in the fall, the Chatham-Kent Community Foundation gave a $15,000 grant to the Society of St Vincent de Paul to help fund the Wallaceburg Food Pantry.
The Food Pantry Program serves Wallaceburg and Walpole Island. Families who need assistance are able to come once every 30 days for a box of non-perishable food and PC Gift Cards for perishable items. In 2021 the organization helped 472 families. That number grew to 654 in 2022.
“Society of Saint Vincent de Paul received this generous grant at a time we were making some difficult decisions about our Food Pantry Program,” Kim VanDamme, Treasurer of the Society of Saint Vincent DePaul said in a news release. “With the increase in the number of families requiring assistance and the ever-rising cost of food we are very concerned about having enough funds to sustain our program. This grant enabled us to keep our doors open in order to serve the many families in our community.”
45 local charities were provided with grants through the Chatham-Kent Community Foundation in 2022.
