There’s good news for dialysis patients currently heading elsewhere for treatment.
There are currently almost a dozen active patients who travel to London or Windsor for dialysis care.
The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance dialysis unit currently has nine seats, and that serves 54 patients. Thanks to a partnership with the Ontario Renal Network and London Health Sciences Centre’s (LHSC) Regional Renal program, that number will rise by three more.
That move will allow those people travelling out of Chatham-Kent five days a week to get their treatment locally, and allow for space for up to a total of 18 additional patients.
The expansion should be up and running in the late spring and be at full capacity by the end of the year.
