CKHA Has Questions About the Return to School

Chatham-Kent officials are mulling over the effects of COVID-19 on the health care system as students head back to class over the next few weeks.

Health Alliance CEO Lori Marshall says one of the main questions is how testing will be carried out.

“I think what we want to avoid is a case where every student and every family member from a school or more schools all show up at the assessment centre at once,” Marshall says.

Marshall says another issue health officials are focusing on is how any potential school outbreak would affect hospital staff, many of whom are also parents.

“We know that in the event there is an outbreak, somebody tests positive in your child’s class, what are all the things that we need to think about,” Marshall says. “How do we make sure that we don’t end up losing our entire workforce in healthcare when we really need them?”

Marshall says the CKHA and its partners, including Public Health, will be meeting to discuss the issues later this week.
