With the second wave of COVID-19 battering a number of regions across the province, officials at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance say they’re ready.
CEO Lori Marshall says a team has been put together to keep tabs on those in long term care homes around Chatham-Kent.
“One of the very proactive things that’s been created is a team that are visiting each one of the long term care and rest and retirement homes on a monthly basis,” Marshall says. “That’s really a collaborative group between ourselves and public health, and if swabbing is required we’d also include EMS in that particular team.”
Marshall says the team doesn’t do inspections, it’s more of a supportive partnership.
“Working with the long term care and retirement homes just to review some of their infection control practices, provide them support and education if required, and just to give them that touch point so that they know there is support available to them in the event they need additional support.”
There are seven long term care facilities in Chatham-Kent and 12 rest and retirement homes.
So far through the pandemic, there have been no outbreaks of COVID-19 in local LTC homes.
