CKHA Not Reinstating Masking Policy, Monitoring COVID-19 Situation

While hospitals in neighbouring communities are reinstating masking policies to protect against COVID-19, the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance says it has no plans to do the same at this time.

CKHA President and CEO Lori Marshall said hospital officials are reviewing the COVID-19 situation on a daily basis.

“What we’re doing at this point is actively monitoring, not only what is going in the hospital, but also in our community and around our community,” said Marshall.

In the last week, Windsor Regional Hospital, Erie Shores Healthcare, London Health Sciences Centre, and St. Joseph’s Health Care London have all reinstated a masking policy for staff. The hospitals are also recommending that visitors mask up when near patients as well.

All of the neighbouring hospitals cited a rise in COVID-19 cases in Ontario as the reason for the policy.

“If and when we identify that we’re starting to see more cases, starting to see staff that are off ill, then we will look at really ramping up our masking, similar to what we’ve done in the past,” Marshall added.

Chatham-Kent Public Health has not released any new data on current COVID-19 cases in the municipality since June 1.
