CKHA optimistic about provincial plan to ease health care pressures

Local hospital officials say they’re pleased with the province’s focus on addressing pressures on the health care system.

On Thursday, Health Minister Sylvia Jones outlined a number of steps the government plans to take to free up more hospital beds and address Ontario’s nursing shortage.

“Similar to other hospitals, we continue to experience health human resource challenges and capacity issues at CKHA including a number of patients who are waiting for an alternate level of care and patients presenting with higher levels of acuity in our Emergency Department,” a CKHA spokesperson said in a written statement to CKXS News. “CKHA is optimistic and will be assessing this plan once we have more details to determine how it will help us to improve access to care for our community and to recruit and retain dedicated staff and physicians.”

Officials say the current situation is not sustainable, and they look forward to working with health care partners and the province to improve care for patients, their families, and the community.
