The province’s Special Investigations Unit has cleared Chatham-Kent Police Services of any wrongdoing in a high speed pursuit that resulted in a crash last year.
Officers gave chase to a pickup on the afternoon of November 28, 2020 after discovering the driver was under court orders not to associate with his passenger and had a suspended license.
Following an 11-kilometre high speed pursuit heading east on the 401, the pickup crashed on the Kent Bridge Road off-ramp.
The female passenger was taken to hospital with fractures and ligament damage to her spine.
While the SIU’s director says the officer should have called off the pursuit for safety reasons, the officer’s driving was not a marked departure from a reasonable standard of care.
