Local police are keeping a close eye on drivers across Chatham-Kent this week.

This is Canada Road Safety Week. Chatham-Kent Police say the annual awareness initiative is designed to increase public compliance with safe driving practices to save lives and reduce injuries on Canada’s roads.

Officers will be focusing in particular on impaired, distracted, and aggressive driving, as well as driving without a seatbelt.

“Every time you buckle up, obey road safety rules and ensure your mind is clear,” said Acting Sergeant Lisa Rodger in a news release. “You are not just safeguarding yourself and your passengers, but also everyone else with whom you share the road. Let’s make every day a day of conscientious driving.”

Canada Road Safety Week continues through Victoria Day on Monday.
