Chatham-Kent residents are being asked to remain vigilant as the search for escaped convict Mason Jenkins continues.
Kingston Police announced Thursday afternoon that the Chatham man convicted of first degree murder in the 1998 shooting death of his sister, Jennifer, was reported missing during an inmate check earlier in the day.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service issued a statement Friday morning, saying given Jenkins’ connections to the Chatham-Kent area, local authorities have taken appropriate precautionary measures and are working closely with partner agencies in support of the investigation.
“The safety of our residents remains our top priority, and we are committed to taking all reasonable steps to support public safety while assisting our policing partners in their efforts to locate and apprehend the individual,” the statement reads.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service will continue to provide timely updates as they become available.
