Chatham-Kent Police faced a big jump in the number of crimes reported over the last year. A jump of 12% in 2020 compared to 2019.
According to a report presented to the Police Board this week, thefts, arsons, and business break ins led the way. Business break and enters jumped by 67%.
The report by the Intelligence Unit showed $11.5 million worth of drugs seized.
Also a disturbing increase in heroin use in the municipality. The major drugs of choice in Chatham-Kent are fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine.
Tips to Crime Stoppers resulted in the seizure of $10 million worth of drugs and 13 weapons last year.
