Clachan Road Bridge Closure Extended

A bridge rehabilitation project in Orford is taking longer to complete than expected.

The Clachan Road Bridge over the Thames River was initially expected to reopen at the end of October, however, due to several delays, it will now remain closed until the week of December 5

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent said the contractor has been working diligently for the past eight months, however, the project was met with labour and material shortages, along with challenges relating to the original construction of the bridge.

Over the next several weeks, the contractor will be waterproofing and paving the bridge, as well as installing galvanized steel railings.

Drivers should also expect further traffic headaches on Clachan Road in the near future, with more construction slated to take place in the spring of 2023.
