Class of 2019 Inducted

Half a dozen new names have been added to the Chatham Sports Hall of Fame.

Baseball player David Corrente was inducted in the modern athlete category and says he’s honoured to be able to represent Chatham-Kent.

“I live in a smaller town now in British Columbia that doesn’t have the infrastructure of coaches that Chatham-Kent has. I still boast about the way that all of the volunteers, coaches, encourage athletes to strive for excellence.”

Golf pro John Dengel was inducted in the builder category last night, and says the key to success is to make sports fun.

“Chatham’s a great community for sports, they promote hockey, baseball, football, soccer. Team sports are awesome, but make the sports fun. Try to be kind to the kid and do things that will excite them to want to come, not because they have to.”

Other athletes honoured last night include volleyball player Adam Kaminski, hockey great Al Bennett, boxer Jamie Jefferson, and the International Silver Stick bantam and midget AA champion 2001-2002 Chatham Outlaws Bantam AA Girls Hockey team.
