Closing the ER Impacts More Than Health Care

CarmenM_(2)Councillor Carmen McGregor wants to know how the closure of Wallaceburg Hospital’s Emergency Department will affect Chatham-Kent.

The Ward 5 representative says that there is more than just health care at stake if the ER closes – economic factors and population growth may be affected.

She likens the closure to that of a school or major industry.  McGregor says, ” When industries look at a community to invest in, they also look at medical facilities for their employees as well.”

Councillor McGregor wants a report to come back to council about how the closure will affect the community. She has concerns about the economic and demographic impact the closure will have, as well as whether investment into the community will be hampered.

Economic development has been a major focus for the Mayor and Council.

McGregor will make the request for the report on Monday evening.
