While the temperatures may not reflect it, Saturday night will be the Coldest Night of the Year.

It’s a national fundraiser, with a local walk put on by Neighbour-Link Chatham-Kent.

The program supports thousands of what spokesman Al Baker refers to as Chatham-Kent’s hungry, homeless, and hurting.

“We get lots of referrals from the Children’s Aid Society, for our wrap around program. A lot of other referrals from CMHA the CKHA,” says Baker.  “It’s hard to put a number on it. but we give a lot of rides to a lot of people to people that can’t afford it to their medical appointments, the food bank or grocery store as the case may be.”

The organization is hoping to raise $30,000.

Everything gets underway Saturday at 5 o’clock at the former Pines Chapel on Grand Avenue West in Chatham.
