College Faculty Vote In Favour of Job Action

College faculty across Ontario have voted in favour of job action as a stalemate between the Ontario Public Service Employees Union and College Employer Council drags on.

Saturday’s vote by two-thirds of the membership voted 59% in favour of job action.

At the heart of the dispute for the faculty is preparation time, hiring full time academic librarians, and finding a better way to evaluate instructor workload, among other things.

The union says it plans to begin job action with an escalating work-to rule and labour action campaign to avoid disruption and stress for students.

Close to 15,000 college faculty, including professors, counsellors, librarians, and instructors have been without a contract since September 30th.
