Officials will be hammering out details over the next few days on a plan that would see colleges establish a dedicated support fund with net savings from the strike.
Eligible students – both domestic and international – will be eligible to receive up to $500 to help with unexpected costs like January rent and day care costs.
As well, officials say apprentices can also apply for a full refund of classroom fees if they aren’t able to complete their in-school training because of the strike, and any student who decides to withdraw from college will get a full tuition refund.
