Community Living Wallaceburg is celebrating inclusion this month as part of an annual province-wide initiative.
Community Living associations across Ontario will be holding flag-raising ceremonies and shining the green and blue Community Living colours on their communities as part of Community Living Month in May.
“The month of May is just an opportunity for us across the province to celebrate inclusion and foster awareness for full participation for folks with disabilities within our communities,” said Patty Peters, the fund development and communications supervisor with Community Living Wallaceburg.
Community Living banners have already been hung in downtown Wallaceburg and an annual flag raising will take place on Tuesday at the Wallaceburg Town Hall on Dufferin Avenue.
Peters said the flag-raising will be followed by an awards and recognition ceremony.
“We’re going to be celebrating lots and lots of individuals and businesses who are really the true champions of inclusivity here in Wallaceburg,” she said.
Several events will be held throughout the month as part of the Community Living celebration, including Movie Night at the Wallaceburg Museum on May 12, and a concert at the Red Barn Brewing Company on May 25.
Community Living is also asking local residents to wear the organization’s coloured bracelets this month to show support for people with developmental disabilities.
