Hydro One is turning to the public as plans for a new transmission line in the area move forward.
The utility is proposing a double-circuit 230 kilovolt transmission line between its Lambton Transmission Station in St. Clair Township and the Chatham Switching Station.
Officials say once built, the St. Clair Transmission Line will support local food supply and security, economic development, and job creation in the region.
A number of community open houses are being held next week discuss the project with both virtual and in-person options available.
The first session is being held in Mooretown November 8th, November 9th at the Royal Canadian Legion in Wallaceburg, and in Chatham on November 10th at the Active Lifestyle Centre. All three meetings will run from 6-8pm. A virtual room will be available to tour the open house online staring November 8th, and a virtual information session is scheduled for November 23rd.

According to Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator, demand for power particularly from the agriculture sector in Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent is expected to quadruple by 2035.
If all goes according to plan, the transmission line is expected to be completed by 2028.
