Condo Could Be Done This Summer?

There’s some skepticism among Chatham-Kent residents as developer Victor Boutin says construction on the downtown Chatham condo project is getting back on track.

In town yesterday to announce he’s already started work on another project, Boutin says the condo should be done by July.

“Those kinds of projects, you don’t do that in a few days. It’s like Rome, they didn’t build Rome in a day, it took a few years,” Boutin says.

The condo was started in 2010 but has faced countless delays, many of which have been blamed on disputes with trades people and other issues Boutin says were “out of our control.”

“I think we should leave the past in the past and look ahead and look at the future,”

The Everlast Group is now working on renovations to the former YMCA building on King Street, building a $9-million residence for international students.

That project is expected to be finished by the end of the year.
