Congrats From CK Council

On behalf of Chatham-Kent Council, I offer our congratulations to the people of Wallaceburg, the Wallaceburg Minor Lacrosse Association and all the folks across Chatham-Kent and other parts of the world who voted for Wallaceburg in the Kraft Celebration Tour.  You deserve this outstanding victory!  Once again, our citizens have demonstrated the great success we have when we work together for a common cause.

It has been reported that some of the more than a half a million votes made in the 24 hour contest period came not only from Chatham-Kent and southwestern Ontario, but from as far away as South Korea, Africa and Australia.  We live in an age where great stories of human achievement are told worldwide within minutes.  We live on the world stage, and Wallaceburg has made us all look great!  Thank you, everyone!

Toronto, ON – After more than one million total online votes were cast for Tuesday’s head-to-head match-up, Wallaceburg, Ontario has been named the second winning community in the Kraft Celebration Tour.

As part of the Kraft Celebration Tour, Wallaceburg hosts a special edition of SPORTSCENTRE featuring anchors Darren Dutchyshen and Kate Beirness when they broadcast live from the Southwestern Ontario community on Saturday, Aug. 20 at 6 p.m. ET.

Wallaceburg also receives a $25,000 community award from Kraft Canada that goes towards turning an old tennis court into an outdoor lacrosse floor.

A picturesque community on the banks of the Sydenham River, Wallaceburg – the hometown of Pittsburgh Steelers’ kicker Shaun Suisham – was first settled in 1804 by Scottish immigrants and now boasts a population of 11,000.  Lacrosse reigns supreme in Wallaceburg, where the local sports hall of fame proudly showcases the town’s longtime success at the sport.

Wallaceburg joins Armstrong, BC, as one of the 10 winning communities in the Kraft Celebration Tour.  Wallaceburg was named to the tour after winning a national head-to-head vote over Trenton, ON.
